The Beginning

The door suddenly opened, and my mother was standing there; she stood silent for a moment with a worried look in her eyes. I couldn’t face her so I looked away…
-“You’re still crying?”, she said as she came forward to take me in her arms.
I wanted to shout “Do you blame me?! He died, mom, he DIED!! No, he didn’t die… he was killed! And his murderers are still out there. And people forget, they forget and go back to their normal life; they laugh, they play, they work, until another catastrophe happens and people die.. again! But you know what is the worst thing this time? When he was killed, he wasn’t in a battle field, he wasn’t fighting anyone, he wasn’t demonstrating against anything; he was in a football match for heaven’s sake! He went their singing joyfully then he was killed! And he didn’t even know why…” This was what I wanted to say to my mother but instead all that came out of my mouth was “I want to die…”
- “And you think this is the solution?”
-“I’m not looking for a solution here. I’m fed up, I’m just fed up! It’s useless; all my dreams will be murdered, just like those young men. We are living in a world that doesn’t know justice, and I’m going to die anyway, so the sooner the better.”
-“hush” mom put her hand on my mouth, “Maybe it is true that those who rule this country don’t know justice, but your Creator does. Your Creator is the Utterly Just, the Avenger; he’s the Most Wise, and the Most Powerful. Death isn’t the solution my dear. If all the good people died, then who is going to make this world a better place? God won’t judge us by the outcomes but by the effort we make to reach these outcomes. Yes, this place isn’t a Utopia, but if we all gave up more innocent people are going to be murdered with no reason. So we all have to fight, each in their field; your father fights injustice in his work and teaches those around him to be fair and just; I do my best here in home to bring you and your brother up as people with manners, people who aren’t afraid to fight for what they believe in. And you, my dear, should fight in your field too, you should study hard and graduate, you should work hard to achieve your goals. If everyone of us did his duty and stood up for what is right, only then no more innocent people are going to die.”
I looked at here in silence, with tears in my eyes. She smiled, kissed me and  stood up to leave the room. As she closed the door behind her I started to think about what she said for awhile, then I went to my desk. As I sat down and started opening my books, I promised myself that I’m going to achieve the dreams of those who died, and I’m going to make this world a better place, or at least die trying. And that.. was only the beginning.
